Liebes Ost-West Team,
unser Trip nach Moskau war ein voller Erfolg - nicht zuletzt durch Julia, die uns sehr nett und mit einem enzyklopädischen Wissen drei Tage lang Moskau gezeigt hat. Alle Programmpunkte waren perfekt organisiert und wir haben nicht nur viel gesehen und gehört, sondern hatten auch viel Spass dabei.

CITY WALKING TOUR 2
On this guided city tour you will be walking through the city center of St. Petersburg. During this excursion you'll get an excellent sight of the history, architecture and main landmarks of the city.
First, take a walk along Nevsky Prospect (the city’s main street) to the Palace Square with its Triumphal Arch and the Winter Palace facing each other and the Alexander Column in the middle.
Cross the Bolshaya Neva by Dvortsovy (Palace) Bridge – to the St. Basil’s Island Point with its Rostral Columns. This is an excellent opportunity for taking panoramic pictures of the city embankments.
Cross the Malaya Neva by Birzhevoy (Stock Exchange) Bridge;
Pass the Peter-and-Paul Fortress – the first construction of St. Petersburg. It said Peter the Great himself had laid the first stone.
Walk along Petrovskaya Embankment and pass the Summer Cottage of Peter I;
Then go towards the famous battle-ship “Aurora” (it signaled the start of the October revolution).
Go by Troitsky Bridge to the Summer Garden with its oldest royal stone palace and a superb collection of Italian statues and sculptures. The garden is surrounded by a magnificent cast iron fence.
Walk through the Field of Mars (with its eternal flame lit in the center of the monument to victims of wars);
Finally, return to the Palace Square.

The cathedral is the final resting place of many tsars, the last being Nicholas II and his family. The fortress is known to be the first building of St. Petersburg. Its corner-stone was laid by the emperor Peter the Great himself.
You will also see the grim cells of what used to be the main political prison of tsarist regime and can be called “Russian Bastilles”.
You will have an opportunity to take pictures from the granite Commanders’ pier – one of the most impressive places on the banks of the Neva River - a realm of water and stone.

The Church of the Resurrection, known as the "Saviour on the Spilt Blood", was erected on the place where the Emperor Alexander II was assassinated.
During the Soviet period, the church was considered to have no artistic value and was used as a storehouse. But in 1997 the restored church was reopened to the public.
This church with its elegant domes and magnificent mosaic panels is a stunning example of Muscovite religious architecture of the pre-Petrine period in St. Petersburg.
