Culturally Astrakhan is one of the most interesting places in Russia. It offers stunning examples of architecture and its history had its moments too. While on tour, you will have a chance to see the main cultural and historical landmarks of the city, to feel the atmosphere of this most southern city in Russia and to take in the stunning panoramic view from the summit of the bridge between left and right part of the old town. Some of the best russian architects of 18-19 centuries worked on main features of the historical centre of Astrakhan: The Russian-Asian Bank, the Astrakhan's Camber of Commerce, Blagoveshenski Convent and of course the fabulous Kremlin with its magnificent tower-clock.

A 1.5 — hour drive from Astrakhan. On your way you will find out about the history of the place. Once in Altyinjahr you will see the White Mausoleum and Kurmangaza house — a memorial to the life and music of world-famous poet and musician. Other museums offer an insight into lives and cultural traditions of locals with the exposition covering every aspect from national dresses to interiors of houses.

If you are travelling during late spring/early fall through the summer you have to use this opportunity to visit Baskunchak and have a swim in its salty are water. Its often referred to by the locals as «The Lake of Tears» or «Holy Lake». It has enough salt in it to last the whole Russia for 400 years and its healing powers are greater than those of the Dead Sea. The Bolshoe Bodlo is a unique dome built up entirely of salt measuring 151 meter in height! Many legends are tied to this dome. Sometimes, when the wind is coming the right direction the dome hums. The locals call it The Singing Dome. The caves is another local attraction. About 30 in total, some of them measure over a kilometer in length and over 30 meters in depth. Some of the writings on the cave's walls are dated as far back as 1911.
